My Magical Woodland Theme Baby Shower – Inspiration

I am not a planner and I typically don’t make any decisions about what I want in advance.

I’m a commitment-phobe in that sense.

When my sister very generously volunteered to throw me a baby shower she asked me what I wanted it to look like and I actually had an answer for once.

“My little fox!” I said.

I was obsessed with all things fox (in relation to my baby) and I had seen woodland themed cakes and showers on Pinterest.

I showed her pictures, which she would refer to as woodland themed and I would correct her and say “yes, my little fox.”

And man, did she do a great job executing something even better than I envisioned!

Colors

I didnt want anything very colorful.

No baby blue.

There’s nothing wrong with the color. It’s beautiful. But it’s the color of a traditional boy baby shower and it’s not what I was going for.

Adding that would not go with the actual vision which I wanted to consist of mostly white, light greens, gold and light brown.

As my sister kept saying, I wanted something very “understated.”

We held the shower in my parents’ back yard.

Following are photos of my gorgeous shower and where we got the items.

Grass Backdrop

For your info, if you’re looking for a vendor in South Florida, we rented this backdrop from Got 2 Have it Antiques.

My husband and me
My brother, mom, dad, me, sister (baby shower hostess with the mostest) and sister.

I ❤️  these people!

My Maternity midi dress – available in different colors

The Tables

We rented gold Chiavani chairs, rectangular tables and light green tablecloths.

Here are some waterproof light green tablecloths I found on Amazon. They have them in different shapes and sizes on the listing. They’re also available in different colors.

Burlap table runners

A thinner Dried Moss Table Runner laid on top of that.

Exterior Decor Details

Let’s have a closer look at the details on the tables.

Variety of succulents…SEVERAL

  • 20-pack of succulents (this has several different quantity options up to 256)

Cylinder vases

  • Clear candle vases – set of 3
  • White ceramic mini vases – set of 4

Acacia Wood Large Slab Lazy Susan with Bark Rim

Rectangular Planters

  • White ceramic planter

Several pieces of driftwood were collected from walking paths by Biscayne Bay and were used to adorn the center of the tables.

I found this 3 pack of decorative driftwood you can purchase on Amazon.

It may not look like much in this picture (above) but this was one of my favorites. I took it home. It’s now just a piece of wood but the succulents lasted about a year.

Succulent arrangement in planter

Animal Napkin Rings

These were not used to hold napkins. Just as additional decor.

Raccoon pewter Napkin Ring
Pewter duck Napkin Ring
Pewter deer Napkin Ring
Pewter bear Napkin Ring

These napkin rings belonged to my husband’s grandparents. It fit the theme so we used them.

I found a few substitutes on Amazon:

  • Vagabond House Pewter Squirrel Napkin Ring
  • Vagabond House Pewter Spring Song Bird Napkin Ring
  • Vagabond House Pewter Oak Leaf Napkin Ring
  • Vagabond House Pewter Fox Napkin Ring

Serving Table

We put hors d’oeuvres on this table and then brought the desserts out just before serving.

A bonus to my beautiful baby shower was that the different toys that were used to help decorate were mine to keep. We still have and play with them all.

Kid O Wobbles Raccoon and Fox toys (part of Kid O Wobbles raccoon, fox and owl set).

Vintage Gardening Pots – Wood Succulent Flower Pot

Owl egg shaker toy (part of Egg Shaker Trio set)

Ceramic Elephant succulent planter pot

Gold pineapple and pear were items from inside my parents’ house (where the shower was hosted).

Pineapple beverage dispenser

Ceramic sheep succulent planter pot

Grass garland

Dessert Table

I found a cake I liked and a local cake shop called Twice As Sweet in Miami Springs made it.

One of the guests made and brought the green and blue dessert. I dont know what was in it but it was delicious.

I actually made the 3 rings hanging behind the cake table. They are currently hanging in my son’s room.

I went to Michael’s and bought pieces of fake plants, the three wooden rings and gold wire.

My sister in law made the red mushroom cupcakes. Recipe linked here.

Acacia 2-Tier Tree Bark Server

Woodland Baby Shower Cake Toppers

Bar

My other sister (pictured above) was in charge of the bar.

I wanted to serve mom-osas and boy-linis for my guests.

My sister was able to find this customizable print out on Etsy.

That does it.

What made my Woodland baby shower the most special of all was the love I felt from everyone who got together to make it happen. My parents, my siblings, my in laws.

Especially my amazing sister who not only volunteered to do the unfun task of organizing everything but also got totally carried away and made it magical.

It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social media apps from my phone. A lot of living has happened during that time and the absence of social media has impacted how that living played out. Birthdays were celebrated, first steps were taken, gluten-free living has been practiced, health procedures happened, first day of a new school, we danced, learned new things, time spent with family and friends.

My general efforts to be more present have resulted in a stronger bond with my baby girl who loves me even more than before. The absence of a constant stream of bad news has not given me more material for my (still existent) health anxiety. I still find opportunities for distraction and I have more work to do. I've decided to poke in when I have something to post. For the sake of my kids, my productivity and my mental health and clarity, I can't keep these black holes of time too easily accessible to social media.

Still tweaking this relationship to minimize it's negative impact without losing the positives.

I'm checking out of social media. As my baby girl I'm checking out of social media.
As my baby girl's first birthday was approaching, it became obvious that I have work to do so that I can be as present as I'd like to be. A year went by in a blur as I tried balancing my 5 year old and my baby. My phone has not served me in accomplishing this.
The goal is 40 days. I'll report back when it's done!
One year. One year since I decided at 4am to sto One year.

One year since I decided at 4am to stop ignoring those irregular,  uncomfortable sensations I had been having since the night before and I somehow wasn't convinced were contractions.

One year since I wondered if I was overeacting by going to the hospital even though I was 41 weeks pregnant.

And then a few short hours later we met. We've been together everyday since.  But I can't believe it's been a year. People always say it goes fast but it's a whole other level of fast when you have more than 1. I have not been as successful in slowing down time like I was able to do with hermanote. But on this very special day, I promise to keep trying.

No more fuzzy days, please.

Happy 1st birthday, Yayas!

I don't know what happened to that 3rd video but I'm not redoing this!
