I had a Winnie the Pooh birthday party when my son turned 3 and it came out adorable, if I do say so myself.

Why Winnie the Pooh?

My little boy really loves Winnie the Pooh movies and episodes. Particularly the Heffalump movie featuring Lumpy and Roo.

While incorporating Lumpy was impossible to do with regards to party supplies like plates and napkins without customizing, I found several ways to bring him in.

Pooh-l Party Invitation

We decided to do the party at my parents’ house and use the pool. Their pool doesn’t have a heater but once I came up with the name Pooh-l party, there was no going back. Like, what??

So I was determined to find a work around and make this Pooh-l party happen.

Side note: I did a little research and found a MidWest Canvas solar pool cover that was under $250. Apparently, they attract and maintain heat in the pool and according to a list of best solar pool covers on Forbes, Midwest Canvas was the way to go.

I used Canva Pro to create my Pooh-l party invitation from scratch. I was able to include Lumpy, Roo, Tigger, Pooh, Piglet and water. In hindsight, I should’ve used different dimensions for an invite I was texting to people’s phones but lesson learned for next time.

Winnie the Pooh Theme Food

Note: If you’re interested in buying my food signs (or others customized for your party menu), I am selling them and the small honey pots on Etsy.

As appetizers (sweet and savory), we served:

  • Tigger’s Tails
  • Rabbit’s Carrot Patch
  • Pooh’s Cheese & Honey
  • Rabbit’s Vegetable Garden

For the main course we served Tigger’s Spring Tail Pasta.

As treats, we had Winnie the Pooh cookies and cake pops made. We chose pictures of Lumpy, Roo and Pooh for the cookies and chocolate and vanilla cake pops designed to look like honey combs in honey pots. Those were beautifully made by Azucar Creations in Miami.

For the cake, my boy said he wanted ice cream so I got Carvel cake and used a Winnie the Pooh cake topper.

Themed Water Bottles

  • Lumpy Winnie the Pooh water bottle labels
  • Winnie the Pooh Friends water bottle labels

To create these Winnie the Pooh theme water bottles, I bought regular water bottles and added customized labels that I stuck on.

I got waterproof water bottle labels on Amazon. On the company’s website, they have templates where you add your design.

Tip: I had to do a few test prints on regular paper to make sure the design aligned well. After a few changes to the print settings, we were in business!

For the design, I adapted elements from the invitation. Again, I used Canva Pro to make my design.

I want to keep it 100 cuz I’m your girl. Sticking the labels on and having the ends align perfectly was not a seamless experience. My crafty mom was assisting with this while I was preparing appetizers and I had to share a constant stream of words of comfort and reassurance.

Lumpy & Roo Piñata

My father in law is a creative BOSS and can make anything your mind imagines. I requested a Lumpy piñata to match the invitation and he delivered this masterpiece.

I got the entrance sign at Michael’s and wrote on it with chalk.

I went to Michael’s to get what I needed to create the Winnie the Pooh food signs. There, I found mini clay pots, which I added yellow paint to and let it drip down the rim. I also got popsicle sticks and faux moss to fill the mini pots. I found the tree slices there, as well, and I didn’t know how I’d incorporate them at the time but I decided to set the food signs on them.

We saw the blue pick up truck while we were at Michael’s and decided to get it because it had an R on it so obviously it was meant for us.

My parents and in laws each bought the plush toys you see here without my direction and coincidentally, there were no duplicates.

I used all things wicker and antique silver to use for serving platters and displays.

The signs, blowouts and images of Winnie the Pooh characters that we added all over came from party supply kits I got on Amazon.

We were expecting 33 guests so I bought these 3 packages to ensure I had enough plates and napkins.

Winnie the Pooh party supplies package #1:

  • 12 rubber balloons
  • 1 cake topper (which i just used a decor)
  • 12 dinner plates
  • 12 dessert plates
  • 12 napkins
  • 1 table cover (too narrow to use as a table cover so i used like a table runner)

Winnie the Pooh party supplies package #2:

Winnie the Pooh party supplies

  • 12 roll up blowing toys
  • 24 cupcake toppers (which I used as decoration)
  • 2 balloons

Winnie the Pooh party supplies package #3:

Winnie the Pooh party supplies
  • 18 plates
  • 20 napkins
  • 1 table cover (too narrow to use as a table cover so i used like a table runner)

I got all the matching plates, napkins and supplies I needed from these 3 kits for under $85.

Selling for Reuse

Also, while preparing for this party, I got the hang of creating some of these things and I can help you create them for your Pooh party. It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social media apps from my phone. A lot of living has happened during that time and the absence of social media has impacted how that living played out. Birthdays were celebrated, first steps were taken, gluten-free living has been practiced, health procedures happened, first day of a new school, we danced, learned new things, time spent with family and friends.

My general efforts to be more present have resulted in a stronger bond with my baby girl who loves me even more than before. The absence of a constant stream of bad news has not given me more material for my (still existent) health anxiety. I still find opportunities for distraction and I have more work to do. I've decided to poke in when I have something to post. For the sake of my kids, my productivity and my mental health and clarity, I can't keep these black holes of time too easily accessible to social media.

Still tweaking this relationship to minimize it's negative impact without losing the positives.

I'm checking out of social media. As my baby girl I'm checking out of social media.
As my baby girl's first birthday was approaching, it became obvious that I have work to do so that I can be as present as I'd like to be. A year went by in a blur as I tried balancing my 5 year old and my baby. My phone has not served me in accomplishing this.
The goal is 40 days. I'll report back when it's done!
One year. One year since I decided at 4am to sto One year.

One year since I decided at 4am to stop ignoring those irregular,  uncomfortable sensations I had been having since the night before and I somehow wasn't convinced were contractions.

One year since I wondered if I was overeacting by going to the hospital even though I was 41 weeks pregnant.

And then a few short hours later we met. We've been together everyday since.  But I can't believe it's been a year. People always say it goes fast but it's a whole other level of fast when you have more than 1. I have not been as successful in slowing down time like I was able to do with hermanote. But on this very special day, I promise to keep trying.

No more fuzzy days, please.

Happy 1st birthday, Yayas!

I don't know what happened to that 3rd video but I'm not redoing this!
