[…] In the meantime, I’m preparing to sell a bunch of my crap around the house as per my post here. […]

I have a little bit of hoarder-type tendencies.
Marie Kondo can’t inspire me to thank my sister’s Georgetown t-shirt for its service and part ways. Sure, my sister (or anyone in my family) never went to Georgetown but that’s not the point! It’s been around since I was a kid and, look, its material has gotten SO thin, it’s super light (and full of gaping holes) making it perfect to wear to sleep!
Still, there are things that even I would feel relieved to move out of my life.
There has been a half filled bag of clothes and items to get rid of sitting by my closet door for months now.
I have paused several times so I can focus on a million other things but then I came to a really long pause after my sister sent over 4 large bags of clothes for me to go through… right after I had finally gotten through the previous 4 bags two weeks earlier.
As I think of ways to make money, I am reminded of the untapped potential sitting in bags on my closet floor… and hanging on my closet door… and sitting in my laundry room.
I already know that I’ll feel 10 lbs lighter (and tidier) once I check this off my to do list. I guess the trick is to let the stuff sit in your way like an eye sore for long enough that you want it out of your life.
If I can do it, so can you!
Below is a list of sites to sell different kinds of items.
This post is specifically for those who won’t waste time taking pictures and listing any of the used clothes individually.
When I originally wrote this post, my toddler was a baby and the potential profit from posting individual items didn’t merit the amount of time I needed to invest.
Now, things are different. So I’m making another post for individually posting items for more earning potential.
I also won’t be getting into the sites that charge to open an account or set up your “store.”
Without further ado, below is a list of places to sell different items so you can maximize efficiency while making space and a little bit of money.
Clothing
ThredUp
This is a lazy man’s Ebay. All those bags of clothes I was mentioning earlier? Some of those may turn into money.
How it works: You request your clean out bags, they send them along with prepaid shipping labels. You fill them up with your things and sit back while they go through your items and decide what meets their selling standards.
On the website, there is a long list of brands they accept for selling. And all items eligible for sale must not:
- Show any signs of wear
- Have any damage
- Have any alterations
On average, they accept 40% of the items in the clean out bag for sale.
All items deemed unacceptable for sale can be donated to one of their partner organizations or returned to you for a fee.
They will then list your items for sale.
You’ll get a percentage on every sale made (percentage varies and you get the opportunity to change the sale price if you feel it may sell better for another price).

Crafts & Handmade Items
Etsy
If you have any crafty hobbies you can make a store on Etsy. Sell your handmade jewelry or your paintings. You can also sell other things like antiques.
How it works: You will be setting up your store which is your outward facing page where you feature each of your items for sale.
Good to know: Etsy has different fees including a listing fee ($0.20), transaction fee and a payment processing fee.
Electronics
BuyBackBoss
Guaranteed to give you the most money for your phone. They’ll even buy broken phones. If you find a better price online you can show it to them so that they change your offer.
In addition, they’ll also buy iPods, iPads or Apple watches.
How it works: Answer questions to get your quote, print your free shipping label and they send you payment via PayPal or check the same day your items are received.
OCBuyBack
They buy:
- Cell phones (but won’t give you as much as BuyBackBoss)
- iPods
- Tablets
- Apple TV
- Smart watch
- GoPro
How it works: It’s simple. Choose your item, ship for free and get paid.
Decluttr
They will buy your stuff to sell it on their website.
How it works: select the make, model and condition of your tech device or scan barcodes of your CDs, DVDs or games with their app to get their price offer.
They will send you a free shipping label for you to put on your packaged items. Once they receive your items, they wipe out any data from your devices and pay you the next day.
They will buy:
- Phones (but won’t give you as much as BuyBackBoss)
- tech
- CDs/DVDs
- Books
- Games
- Lego’s (yes, Legos)
If you use my link here, you will get an extra $5 added to the value of your items the day after they receive your items.
Pretty Much Anything
Amazon
How it works: You list items you have by selecting your item from the catalog and writing in any notes about the condition.
Good to know: Individual seller accounts are free but you should plan on not selling more than 40 items to have that plan. Also, there is a small fee on sales made.
OfferUp
How it works: This is like the new craigslist. You can choose the option to ship so you’re not limited to sell things locally only. They will charge a 9.9% service fee for shipping.
OfferUp is a great option for larger items that are too expensive to ship like furniture. I sold a huge antique surgical lamp that I had.
I have taken to this app to list some unused dog products that I have after my furbabies passed away.
Bonus tip: They have the option to promote your listing with Promote Plus because listings get buried pretty quickly. I tried this for a month and I didn’t make any sales or even receive any messages on promoted products. ?
Books
Cash4Books
How it works: Submit your ISBN and they’ll tell you their offer. Then you can send them with the prepaid shipping label they give you. They pay you via PayPal.
Are there any websites not mentioned here that you’ve used that make it easy to sell your stuff? Let me know!
