Best Products for Couples Trying to Conceive

I was freshly 34 when my husband and I decided to start trying to have a baby.

I didn’t expect it to be easy to get pregnant.

But I started to get worried after the months kept passing without a positive pregnancy test.

I saw a reproductive endocrinologist to gain some insight.

Through the process, I was dedicated (as we all tend to be). I researched, we ran tests, used products for support and tried different approaches to conceiving (i.e. frequency, shifting targeted dates).

We were fully invested in the process and 11 months-of-trying later we were about to opt for an IUI before—surprise!—we finally got pregnant with my little boy.

This post is dedicated to sharing the products that I recommend using while trying to get pregnant.

Supplements

Folic acid: I was advised by my doctor that both my husband and I should be taking folic acid for at least 3 months (but any bit helps) before conceiving. This has a number of health benefits for the baby including reducing chances of spina bifida, which forms early on.

I took prenatal vitamins, which include folic acid. Specifically, I (still) take Vitafusion Prenatal Gummies.

Fertilaid: After some testing, we found that my husband had some irregularly shaped sperm, which could affect our ability to successfully conceive. The reproductive endocrinologist recommended this product to increase the number of his swimmers and thus, to increase quantity of good ones.

Ovulation Tracking

Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation tests: Many times, the period tracking apps can be wrong when predicting when we’ll be ovulating because our bodies are not robots that are perfectly timed. I used these to have a better idea of when I’ll be ovulating.

Easy@Home Ovulation Test Strips: I incorporated these ovulation tests during my last round of TTC. Since the time I originally wrote this post, I tried for 9 months before getting pregnant with my second baby. These are cool because it has a free app that will read your results (through scanning the test or uploading a photo) and will chart your daily results to help identify your peak. I recommend just getting the ovulation strips. I had originally bought the pack that brings ovulation tests and pregnancy tests but I read a lot of negative reviews about faulty pregnancy tests.

Baby Dance Add-Ons

Pre-Seed Lubricant: You want to make the baby dance as enjoyable and smooth (?) as possible. Especially since it tends to start feeling like a bit of a chore after month 3 or so of TTC. You need all the help you can get. However, some lubricants can be harmful to sperm.  This one mimics your body’s natural fluids and is safe to use while TCC.

Do you have any products you found helpful while trying to get pregnant?

Congratulations! Perhaps you can use this to segway into what else trying parents should take into consideration – such as fertility rich foods, best practices (not hot tubs) etc.

I love that you put these into a list! I used all of these when trying to conceive, but all at different times and after much research. It would’ve been nice to have this list to read when I was trying to conceive the first time!

We are currently TOC and I can say even though we haven’t had success yet I am a big fan of preseed. The quality and texture are great, plus it isn’t super expensive.

It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social media apps from my phone. A lot of living has happened during that time and the absence of social media has impacted how that living played out. Birthdays were celebrated, first steps were taken, gluten-free living has been practiced, health procedures happened, first day of a new school, we danced, learned new things, time spent with family and friends.

My general efforts to be more present have resulted in a stronger bond with my baby girl who loves me even more than before. The absence of a constant stream of bad news has not given me more material for my (still existent) health anxiety. I still find opportunities for distraction and I have more work to do. I've decided to poke in when I have something to post. For the sake of my kids, my productivity and my mental health and clarity, I can't keep these black holes of time too easily accessible to social media.

Still tweaking this relationship to minimize it's negative impact without losing the positives.

I'm checking out of social media. As my baby girl I'm checking out of social media.
As my baby girl's first birthday was approaching, it became obvious that I have work to do so that I can be as present as I'd like to be. A year went by in a blur as I tried balancing my 5 year old and my baby. My phone has not served me in accomplishing this.
The goal is 40 days. I'll report back when it's done!
One year. One year since I decided at 4am to sto One year.

One year since I decided at 4am to stop ignoring those irregular,  uncomfortable sensations I had been having since the night before and I somehow wasn't convinced were contractions.

One year since I wondered if I was overeacting by going to the hospital even though I was 41 weeks pregnant.

And then a few short hours later we met. We've been together everyday since.  But I can't believe it's been a year. People always say it goes fast but it's a whole other level of fast when you have more than 1. I have not been as successful in slowing down time like I was able to do with hermanote. But on this very special day, I promise to keep trying.

No more fuzzy days, please.

Happy 1st birthday, Yayas!

I don't know what happened to that 3rd video but I'm not redoing this!
