Dr. Seuss Books in Spanish

I love Dr. Seuss and all the nostalgia that images of the Cat in Hat bring.

When my almost-5-year-old was a baby I couldn’t resist a good deal I found to get a tote and 5 Dr. Seuss books for some ridiculously minimal price and I bought a couple of others along the way.

Imagine my excitement when I learned that some of these classics are available in Spanish!

I have a mini collection of Dr. Seuss books in Spanish. Here are all of the ones I’ve found.

Huevos verdes con jamón

The classic green eggs and ham book. Sam (I am) is now Juan Ramon and like in all the other Spanish versions, they did an impressive job at rhyming while maintaining the same message in spanish.

Ages: 0-7

El Gato ensombrerado ha regresado

The Cat in the Hat Comes Back!

Ages: 3-7

Un Pez Dos Peces Pez Rojo Pez Azul

My boy enjoys this one a lot. This story feels like a hodgepodge of stories but that’s what the English version decided it would be.

Ages: 0-5

Yoruga la Tortuga y otros cuentos

This book has 3 stories in 1 book. I had never heard of these titles in English but I love the rhythm of these and the moral of each story. From being happy with yourself the way you are to the consequences of being rude and selfish, the lessons are deep.

Ages: 5-9

¡Oh, cúan lejos llegarás!

Oh, my heart! This one is a personal favorite. My brother had bought a onesie for my boy of this book cover the day I got home from the hospital after he was born and it set the stage for my love for this book for my son. I originally bought one in English and I vividly remember laying on the floor of his room reading it when he was too small to even sit and pausing every few words to regain my composure and carry on. When I realized it existed in spanish, I had to get this one. My honest opinion is that the Spanish version doesn’t flow quite as nicely as the English, but we read and enjoy it anyway.

Ages: 5+

¿Eres mi mamá?

My sister had this one from when her daughter was a baby and she let me have it. A simple, cute story that my son memorized when he was just a toddler.

Ages: 1-3

¡Cómo el Grinch robó la Navidad!

This is my other favorite. Me and my boy are both in love with Christmas and the Grinch is a standard part of that. I’ve been reading him this since he was a baby.

Ages: 5-9

Ven a mi casa

I love this book that shows different types of homes that you’ll find and the lifestyles of different cultures. It touches on how different cultures sleep, live and eat. A little bit of world travel between the pages.

Ages: 3-7
