Make Money Playing Games on Your Phone

March 3, 2021 in Making It, Money

Last Updated on December 30, 2022 by Natalie

Depending on who you are, this may be good or bad for you to know.

I’ve gone through my Candy Crush addiction phases but for the past several years I haven’t had any game apps on my phone because whatever space I have on my phone is precious.

A couple of months ago, after we finished watching The Queen’s Gambit, I saw my husband playing chess on his phone and it tempted me to play Sudoku on mine.

Then it got me thinking. There has to be something that allows you to play games for money. Not like gambling but just by playing games.

So I did some research and found Mistplay. Then I tested it out so I can share it with you.

What is Mistplay?

Mistplay is an app (currently only available for Android but Mistplay for iPhone coming soon) that has a library of different kinds of games you can download and play.

They call themselves a loyalty program for mobile gamers.

How It Works

Download Mistplay at the Google Play Store. If you use my link, you’ll immediately earn 50 bonus units and I will receive units once you reach level 4.

You earn points (units) as you play. Eventually those points can be redeemed in the form of a gift card (i.e. VISA, Amazon and others).

You can also join teams and enter contests.

They have different categories of games (i.e. multiplayer, role playing, war, sports, action, puzzles) and add new games on a regular basis.

You won’t make tons of money but it’s a fun way to earn a lil somethin’.

How to Collect Points

In order to get points you need to make sure you enable permission to display Mistplay above other running apps.

You need to always launch the games through Mistplay so your game time is tracked.

How to Play Smart

  • Play every day for at least 5 minutes to get credit for a play streak.
  • Choose games with high unit multipliers. These help you gain more units faster.
  • Pay attention to the featured boosted games in the home page. You can play certain games for a higher unit multiplier.
  • Get bonus units for collecting different badges. There are badges for various habits. For example, you get the night owl badge for playing late at night.
  • Check out the different things you can do to earn bonus units on the Bonus tab. For example, get units by entering contests or following Mistplay on Instagram.

How Long Until You Should Cash Out?

I had played everyday for 28 days when I reached my goal of 3,000 points.

This is what I calculated to be the best time to cash out because, as you can see in my video above, it’s pretty much the same amount of points to get to the next cash-out tier as if you were starting over again…I think ?

My Breakup With Mistplay

Over time, it felt like reaching even 1,800 points (equivalent to $5) took an eternity! I don’t know if something in the app changed, if it just starts strong before you plateau or if I didn’t know how to play to my advantage. I was not an expert in the ways of the app. Just a regular ole player.

I found myself with a disruptive habit that was taking my attention away from my toddler or other productive efforts with nothing to show. The last time I cashed out was a year. And. A. Half. Ago! Sure, my addiction to the game ebbed and flowed but there was a lot of time invested without a cent in return.

This week, I finally hit 1,800 points. It was time. I cashed out for the final time and uninstalled Mistplay.

Just in time for a new year and new plans.

If you are someone who plays games on your phone anyway without earning anything, I’d say Mistplay is a way to see a little bit of reward. If you don’t already play mobile games, don’t get into Mistplay just for the sake of making $5 every year and a half 🫠

It was his first school show ever and I had no idea if he would have a melt down or cooperate.

Turns out we've got a showman!

It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social It's been more than 40 days since I deleted social media apps from my phone. A lot of living has happened during that time and the absence of social media has impacted how that living played out. Birthdays were celebrated, first steps were taken, gluten-free living has been practiced, health procedures happened, first day of a new school, we danced, learned new things, time spent with family and friends.

My general efforts to be more present have resulted in a stronger bond with my baby girl who loves me even more than before. The absence of a constant stream of bad news has not given me more material for my (still existent) health anxiety. I still find opportunities for distraction and I have more work to do. I've decided to poke in when I have something to post. For the sake of my kids, my productivity and my mental health and clarity, I can't keep these black holes of time too easily accessible to social media.

Still tweaking this relationship to minimize it's negative impact without losing the positives.

I'm checking out of social media. As my baby girl I'm checking out of social media.
As my baby girl's first birthday was approaching, it became obvious that I have work to do so that I can be as present as I'd like to be. A year went by in a blur as I tried balancing my 5 year old and my baby. My phone has not served me in accomplishing this.
The goal is 40 days. I'll report back when it's done!
One year. One year since I decided at 4am to sto One year.

One year since I decided at 4am to stop ignoring those irregular,  uncomfortable sensations I had been having since the night before and I somehow wasn't convinced were contractions.

One year since I wondered if I was overeacting by going to the hospital even though I was 41 weeks pregnant.

And then a few short hours later we met. We've been together everyday since.  But I can't believe it's been a year. People always say it goes fast but it's a whole other level of fast when you have more than 1. I have not been as successful in slowing down time like I was able to do with hermanote. But on this very special day, I promise to keep trying.

No more fuzzy days, please.

Happy 1st birthday, Yayas!

I don't know what happened to that 3rd video but I'm not redoing this!
