Spanish Books for Babies and Toddlers

Books are a big part of Baby R’s day.
I want to feed and support the use of his imagination as much as possible.
Since we speak to him in Spanish, I prefer books that are already in Spanish rather than using my brain energy on translating as I go.
We have quite a few Spanish books and I’m sharing them here along with a link to where you can buy them for anyone looking for Spanish books for their baby or toddler. If you know someone who speaks to their baby in Spanish, these make great gifts.

Bedtime Book
Buenas Noches Luna
This is, of course, the classic Goodnight, Moon book. All of the illustrations are identical to the English version. The lines don’t rhyme so well but that’s okay. Also, since I’m Cuban some of the words they use aren’t the same as the words we use so I substitute them. For example, I say medias instead of calcetines.
Canticos
All of these are flap books which my boy loves 💘.
Los Pollitos
A must. This is a classic in Spanish.
Elefantitos
I had never heard this song before. Coincidentally, I heard it on Spotify today. I swear.
Ratoncitos
I have never heard this song and I haven’t downloaded the accompanying app since I don’t allow screen time for Baby R but after writing this, I’m going to look it up. I bought this along with Los Pollitos and Elefantitos because it looked cute.

This Little Piggy / Este Cochinito
The famous nursery rhyme is told in both English and Spanish.
Gansi y Gerti
Two best friends (geese) follow each other around and play. A simple but sweet little story.

Cómo El Grinch Robó La Navidad
This is the Spanish version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. They did an amazing job of rhyming. If you are like me, and love this classic in English, you need this in your life. I highly recommend!
Huevos Verdes con Jamón
This is one of the stories I think of that makes up the essence of Dr. Suess so when I saw this in the playroom at my parents’ house, I had to take it.
Yoruga La Tortuga y Otros Cuentos
This is also a good one because it has 3 stories inside:

Eres mi Mamá?
This was the most recent addition that belonged to my niece. I am excited to have it because I love Dr. Suess ❤
Fun Stories
La Mariquita Malhumorada
This is a story of a grouchy ladybug that goes around looking to pick a fight with different animals until she gets tired and a sweet, forgiving ladybug offers to share her food at the end of the day.
Because of this book, my boy has a sign for what a mariquita does from early on.
Spot Va a la Granja
This is another flap book, which my son enjoys reading. He loves animals so he makes all the sound as we go through the book.
Fiesta Secreta de Pizza
This is a book from the people who wrote/ illustrated Dragons Love Tacos, which we also have (in English).
This is a fun story about a raccoon who dreams up a way to get his claws on some tasty pizza.
Oso Pardo, Oso Pardo, Qué Ves Ahí?
My son loves this classic.
No Me Comas, Chupacabra!
Someone recommended this one after I originally made this post and I’m so glad they did!
It got 4.9 stars with over 200 reviews on Amazon and most importantly, my little one LOVES it. He constantly requests it and he laughs every time it’s read no matter how many times that happens in a day.
Note: I was surprised to discover this book is not fully in Spanish. Rather, it’s in Spanglish.
Hotel Bruce
Last but definitely not least are the Mother Bruce books. We love these.
Hotel Bruce: Bruce is a bear who cares for four geese and while they were away one Spring, some mice turned his house into a hotel.
It’s a cute and funny story with really nice illustrations.
Mamá Bruce
I have been searching for more Spanish books from this Bruce series. We have Santa Bruce in english that I translate and I’m excited to have found this one available on Amazon.

My kids have just started learning Spanish at school this year. Green Eggs and Ham looks like a good one to read to them to get them into it.
