Is Being a Mom Enough?

#NewMomThoughts, Womanhood/Sisterhood By November 19, 2015 No Comments

Sleep is at such a premium. I have so much to say but I want to sleep so I have the energy for my daughter tomorrow. I can’t count on naps. I can only count on the long stints at night. And even last night was a new one for us.

Is being a mom enough?
Is being a mom enough for a millennial? The name of the generation is laced with such hope, aspiration, goal-getting, influencing, changing the course of “the old ways” etc etc.

I had a conversation with a good friend of mine and she asked a very familiar question- What’s next for you? What are you working on? I replied: I am momming.

Tried and Tired

Tonight is quite a trying night for us. My daughter seemingly refuses to sleep and I’m tired of trying to put her down. When will sleepiness win? For her that is.

This is my 4 attempt to put her to sleep. I currently watching her in the monitor awaiting her groaning to tire and fall asleep. If I didn’t have upstairs and downstairs neighbors, I would have already gone to sleep and let her cry it out by now. But I’m courteous/hate to be “that neighbor”

Single Momming

#NewMomThoughts, Love and Marriage, Womanhood/Sisterhood By November 16, 2015 No Comments

The hubs and stepson are gone so I’m on my single mom steeze for the next few days. I got so much done today and I’m damn proud of myself.

With no one around to help I was able to shower, cook breakfast, make the bed, move the car to the right side of the street, take down and put up several curtain choices (I want to replace a curtain with a tapestry but all I have are mud cloths that don’t work), play with,

I wrote with no agenda and magic happened. When I blabber on, something brilliant eventually comes out. I looked ONLY at my fingers, worried nothing about typos – as they would slow me down. I typed and typed away. Then at some point I was itching to check my facebook. I set a timer for 5 minutes and went to FB. I honored the timer (HUGE for me) and commenced to writing. It was great. I look forward to this process again. This go ’round I wrote about 1000 words. Not great, but not horrible either. Proud of myself, I was (Yoda speak).

Five Months and counting

#NewMomThoughts By November 5, 2015 No Comments

My daughter turns 5 months today. Here’s my thought that I shared via Facebook. And this is on the heels of her waking up every 2 hours last night (and and not taking any naps all day today)…

“question: If I can’t have caffeine or liquor because of how it will affect my breast milk (and consequently the baby), does that mean if I drink chamomile tea she will sleep through the night?”

I’m looking for ways to streamline my life because sometimes it feels like I’m drowning.

I told someone today, my life feels never ending to-do list…like things are never complete.

Between making sure the refrigerator and cabinets are fully stocked, snacks at the ready, never running out of toothpaste or body soap or dish soap, keeping stock of trash bags, laundry detergent, printer paper, the soda stream fizz and diaper genie ….to paying the bills on time, making sure lunch meat is available for Wednesdays, making sure dinner is ready when folks get hungry….
